Terms and Conditions

All players and guests to Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC (aka Sound Shore) have the use of our facility in accordance with the Terms and Conditions. General terms and conditions are followed by additional terms and conditions for specific programs.

General Terms and Conditions

AGREEMENT: By utilizing the Sound Shore facility and programs, all participants accept and agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions of Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC. Sound Shore reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions as may become necessary. With respect to all junior players, the parent or guardian represents his/her minor child.

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: All players should check in at the Front Desk for court assignments. Players are asked to wait until their start time to enter the court and immediately leave the court when their court time expires. Please put refuse into waste containers, remove all balls and personal property, and return towels to Front Desk. Players are not allowed behind the curtains.

TENNIS ATTIRE: Non-marking tennis shoes and proper tennis attire is required at all times on the courts. Sound Shore maintains the right to preempt any player’s time if proper attire is not worn.

PERSONAL PROPERTY: Please utilize the lockers and coat racks to store your belongings while on the premises. Sound Shore is not responsible for valuables left, lost or stolen in our facility or on our grounds.

SPECTATORS: Spectators may watch from the lounge areas. Only players are allowed on the courts; the benches are for use by the players.

TENNIS BASKETS, HOPPERS AND TUBES: Tennis carts, baskets, hoppers, and tubes are the property of Sound Shore Indoor Tennis and are to be used only by Sound Shore staff. No equipment can be brought in for use. Maximum number of tennis balls per court is 6 unless accompanied by a Sound Shore tennis professional. Only Sound Shore professionals are allowed to teach on our courts.

FOOD & DRINK: All food and drink are prohibited on the courts. Water may be taken onto a court in a covered container.

CELL PHONES: Use of cell phones or other electronic devices are prohibited on the courts.

SMOKING: Smoking is prohibited within the facility or on the grounds.

PAYMENTS: There is no membership, registration, guest or monthly fees. Fees are all inclusive. All fee rates are subject to such tax as may become applicable. An interest charge of 1½ % per month (effective rate of 18% per year) on unpaid balances will be levied on all accounts past due, effective on due dates.

MEDICAL ABSENCE: A player with an account in good standing is eligible for make-ups determined by the date written notice is received by the Front Desk. Promptly submit doctor’s note with the date of injury and expected date of return as soon as possible. No refunds will be given. No credit will be given retroactively or after the session ends.

CANCELLATION: If Sound Shore cancels or closes for inclement weather or other emergency, the clinics and lessons will be rescheduled. Private lessons can be rescheduled when at least 24-hour notice of cancellation is given to Front Desk; otherwise you will be charged the lesson.

CALENDAR: Sound Shore is open seven days a week, all year round, except for the following: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Easter, weekends between Memorial Day-Labor Day, and the second week of August. We will close at 3:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

TERMINATION OF AGREEMENT: Sound Shore reserves the right to terminate this agreement. No refund shall be made to any player except at the sole discretion of Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC.

RISK OF INJURY/WAIVER OF CLAIMS: I represent that I am in good physical health and mental condition and have no disability, illness, or other condition that could prevent me from the use of facilities or participation in activities at Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC (aka Sound Shore). I acknowledge that Sound Shore neither provides nor is responsible for providing medical advice with respect to my physical or mental condition and ability to participate in activities. The USTA recommends the wearing of a heart monitor. In the case of incapacitation, I authorize Sound Shore to act on my behalf.

I acknowledge and understand that participation in any activity or use of the Sound Shore facility includes an inherent risk of physical or other injury to me and/or damage to personal property and that as I progress through the activities, physical and mental demands will increase and at times be extremely strenuous and exhausting, both physically and mentally. I knowingly, freely and willingly agree to assume all those risks. As lawful consideration for being permitted to participate, I agree to release from any legal liability and agree not to sue Sound Shore for any and all injuries or property damage or loss caused by or resulting from participation in any of Sound Shore’s activities, whether or not such injury or death or damage or loss was caused by negligence, carelessness, or any other cause that might otherwise result in Sound Shore being liable to me. I agree that I will not bring or be a party to any legal action or claim against Sound Shore based upon or arising out of my participation in any of Sound Shore’s activities on any legal theory including, but not limited to, personal injury, undue influence, and/or emotional distress. I am aware that this contract is legally binding and that I am releasing legal rights by signing it.

I grant to Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC the right to record, reproduce, or otherwise use my (or my child’s) likeness and voice for promotional materials/media and permission to contact me via e-mail.

ACCEPTANCE: These policies and regulations are an integral part of the agreement between participant and Sound Shore. By utilizing Sound Shore facilities and participating in activities, participant understands, accepts and agrees to abide by the Terms and Conditions of Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC.


Season Court

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: All players should check in at the Front Desk for court assignments. Players are asked to wait until their start time to enter the court and immediately leave the court when their court time expires. Please put refuse into waste containers, remove all balls and personal property, and return towels to Front Desk. Players are not allowed behind the curtains.

COURT ASSIGNMENT: Court assignments are at the discretion of Sound Shore. Sound Shore has the right to assign courts and to provide instruction on adjacent courts.

CANCELLATIONS: Captains can cancel a day’s court for religious or other reasons with at least two days’ notice to the Front Desk.  Notice of closing due to inclement weather or emergency will be posted on our website and voicemail message.

DATES: The season consists of 33 weeks from September to May. The season does not include the week from December 25-31. Seasonal players wishing to play during this holiday will be given priority in reserving court time at a reduced rate. For days Sound Shore is closed, please schedule alternate court time with the Front Desk. All make-ups must be taken before season ends.

COURT RESERVATION: Previous season’s court assignments will be held until March 31st, each year. After that, all court reservations will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.

APPLICATION/DEPOSIT: A  non-refundable deposit of $600.00 per court hour ($900.00 for 1.5 hours) must accompany this application.

PAYMENT: Captains are responsible for collection and payment of all court fees for their group. Partial payment will not be accepted. The balance is due and payable no later than August 31st, check, cash or credit card, payable to: Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC. An interest charge of 1 1/2% per month (effective rate of 18% per year) on unpaid balances will be levied as of August 31st.

FEES: There are no membership, registration, guest or monthly fees. Fees are all inclusive.

ACCEPTANCE: Captain assumes full responsibility to inform all players within his/her group of all Terms and Conditions of Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC.


Women’s League

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: All players must arrive 10 minutes before league play to check court assignments, collect balls, pay balance, and fill water bottles. After play, please put refuse into waste containers, return balls and towels to Front Desk and record scores. Please do not leave court before league play is complete.

SUBSTITUTES: All Substitutes other than full-share league members and all non-league players must pay a court fee at the Front Desk prior to play. There is no charge for substituting in Doubles matches for full share Doubles league members or in Single matches for full-share Single league members.

MAKE-UPS: When possible, a maximum of two Singles or Doubles matches will be rescheduled as make-ups in other groups closest to your level. We will continue to offer make-ups during vacations when prior arrangements are made.

WARM-UP/FIRST SERVE: Ten minute warm-up. For Doubles use two balls. Spin for serve. Please do not play first (serve) in.

DOUBLES PLAY: One and 1½ hour leagues play three 6-game pro-sets with no-ad scoring. Two hour leagues play three 7-game pro-sets with no-ad scoring. In no-ad scoring, at 3-all (deuce), receiver has choice of side; the next point wins the game. If sets are tied 5-all (or 6-all) play a 9-point tie breaker. The next server serves 2 points; opponent serves 2 points, alternating until one team wins 5 points. At 4-4, last server gets an extra serve and receiver has choice of side. Upon completion of set, rotate partner. USTA rules apply.

SINGLES PLAY: Play regular scoring, not pro-sets. If tied at 6-all play a 12-point tie breaker. The next server serves 1 point from deuce court; opponent serves 2 points starting from ad court; alternate serves (2 each) until 7 points are won by margin of 2 points. USTA rules apply.

RECORDING SCORES (DOUBLES/SINGLES): Record completed sets and games and incomplete set scores on score sheets at end of play at the Front Desk. All players, including sub and make-ups, must record scores.

CANCELLATIONS: Notification should be given at the earliest possible time, day or night, no later than the day prior to play. Call the Front Desk at 914-939-1300, Bea Culen at x16, or email: womensleague@soundshoreindoortennis.com. Please leave full name, day and time of play, and telephone number. Same day cancellations are for emergencies only. Same day cancellations that are not emergencies or no-shows will result in a sub fee charged to you for that day.

APPLICATION/DEPOSIT: Submit complete application form with deposit of $200.00 reserve your share in a league, plus $100.00 for each additional league.

WITHDRAWAL: You may withdraw, by written notice, before August 20th, for a full refund.

HOLIDAYS: Refer to Women’s League page.

FEES: There are no membership, registration, or monthly fees. Fees are all inclusive.

MEDICAL ABSENCE: A player with account in good standing is eligible for make-ups determined by the day written notice is received by the Front Desk. Please submit a doctor’s note with date of injury and expected date of return as soon as possible. For long term absence, player may qualify for credit if, in addition to timely written notice, the player releases her share and a suitable replacement is found by her or us. No credit will be given retroactively or after the league ends.


Men’s League

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: All players must arrive ten minutes before league play to check court assignments, collect balls, pay balance, and fill water bottles. Players must immediately leave the court when their time has expired. Please put refuse into waste containers and return balls and towels to Front Desk.

Junior Program

APPLICATION/DEPOSIT: Complete the application and submit with deposit or full amount, payable to Sound Shore Indoor Tennis LLC. The fee is all inclusive for 14 lessons. Once placed in the clinic of your choice, you will be notified by email and your check will be cashed. You may cancel your clinic by written notice before August 20, for a full refund. After that date, you are responsible for the entire fee, unless a suitable replacement is found by you or us.

Any students applying after first day of September session must pay in full with the application.  Cash, check or credit card accepted. There is no billing.
